Europe's Internet Economy
Gartner conducted a survey of the Internet economy in Europe and found that, in most respondents' minds, the Internet had created a revolution. Gartner looked at four layers of the Internet economy: revenues for network equipment; revenues for Internet consulting, applications, and support services; the value of Internet intermediaries; and Internet commerce. The conclusion was that the Internet is important to the economy of all Western European countries.

Internet use growing faster in Europe than US
A study on Internet take-up carried out by Pro Active International has found that Internet use is growing faster in Europe than it is in the US. The Pan European Internet Monitor estimates that 34% of Europeans, or 107.8 million, have access to the Internet and 24.1% (75.9 million) had been online in the 14 days before the survey. This compares with 50% of US citizens with Internet access, of whom 35% had been online in the previous 14 days. The gap between US and European use is narrowing fast, however. Sweden has the highest rate of Internet use: 53% of citizens had been online in the 14 days before the survey.
